Throughout history, peoples and cultures around the planet have referred to the Earth herself as alive. The name Gaia was given by the ancient Greeks who looked on her as a goddess. Energetic aspects of Gaia include abundance, fertility, cycles, creation, nurturing, balance, harmony, beauty, power.

Gaia energy reminds us to trust the rhythm and flows of life. Our interconnection to all life. Our ability to create, nurture and bring into balance the energy within our own life. Our inherent power when connected to the whole. This feminine energy of the mother runs through Gaia. The Earth herself emits frequencies and harmonics that help to direct life on this planet. A self-contained, self-regulating system that sustains all life. You may think of the natural realm as what you see all around you in this glorious physical world, but it’s much more than even that.

Nature is a form of consciousness, the Life Force energy that embodies the planet. That Life Force starts with Gaia herself, who formulated from cosmic debris made up of the elements. These same elements comprise our bodies, too. Our beautiful planet is proof that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it simply changes form. Heat and pressure were created when our planet was being formed, and that energy is still in motion, embodied through her geology and biology. We see this in the energetic lines around and through the planet.

The ancient practice of reading the land, known as geomancy, has references around the world. The idea is to have a better understanding of how the earth herself is expressing in a particular area of land. Through this understanding, we can incorporate balance and harmony in a greater way, while harnessing Earth energy naturally. Thus increasing the ability for humans to connect with the unseen aspects of the natural realm and the Divine in reading the land, various currents of energy and places where this earth energy would pool up, were determined.

In China, these energy lines were called dragon lines, other cultures referred to them as spirit lines or spirit roads. Since the 1920s, they have been called ley lines. The way that energy flows through these patterns can and does affect our physicality, as well the land we inhabit. That is why certain places on the planet have had a propensity to emit stronger and higher vibrations than other spaces. Over time, these places became sacred sites and were imprinted with the intention for mystical experiences. In this way Gaia, the very planet herself, assists us in connecting with the magic of the natural realm.

You can sense in certain areas, particularly in wooded areas, where the convergence of energy is palpable. It’s evident in the way rocks collect and congregate, how rock formations are shaped, and how other life forms like moss or algae grow around it in a way that doesn’t make sense. It can’t be explained away through general geology. In places like this, the natural energy that makes up the Earth’s electromagnetic field and travels along these electrical currents will collect resulting in an increase in Earth energy in spots.

Some people with high sensitivity to energy may feel these lines and power spots, while others can use dowsing to determine. Those geomancers who spend large amounts of time in the nature may be able to “see” these energetic lines and power spots by following the clues of the land and the natural aspects upon it. For instance, lines, rows, or collections of rocks that can’t be explained by natural processes. Even the way trees and plants will grow or avoid growing, if you follow the line through, you’ll notice a pattern and a pooling of energy.

In other words, nature points us to these power spaces. When you think about the populated areas. There are still wild spaces where we haven’t moved things, and if you learn how to trace energy, you can see where there’s power spots and how Nature, also known as the Wisdom Keepers, has assembled itself in those areas. When we are intuiting energetic messages from the natural realm, we want to pay attention to anything that seems out of place, or that otherwise draws our attention. This is one of the ways that the Earth herself reveals her power spots to those who are paying attention to the subtle energies.

Our incredible planet is a living being who is going through her own life cycle. This phenomenon is most evident when studying the seasons, particularly at the time of the equinoxes and solstices. At these times of passage throughout the year, there is a measurable emission of frequencies that gives instructions to all of nature. It tells the trees, plants, and animals what to do . . . and it tells us and our physical bodies what to do, because remember, we are nature, too. Even though some of us may live and work in high-rise apartments and skyscrapers in the center of urban areas, a part of us is receiving that message.

For instance, in the spring, the earth herself is waking all of creation from its winter slumber, and many humans experience cabin fever, as the need to shake off that winter hibernation. In the summer, around the solstice, you could be sensing that desire to be in full expression, like the plant kingdom in its beautiful summer palette in full expression. When the autumn equinox arrives, the Earth herself instructs life upon her to take stock and prepare for the winter time. Once the winter solstice arrives, the planet emits the message to go into the winter slumber, where we are all invited to slow down, go within, and dream our dream for the springtime.

Often, we think of the planet as just a big old rock and forget that appearances can be deceiving. The planet herself is flowing life force energy. Science can measure electromagnetic fields pulsating from the planet, as well as the boulder, rocks, and other pieces that have broken off from the whole, continue to emit these energies. As humans we can connect with, harness, and work with these energies in a way that amplifies our intentions. All of this consciousness from Gaia flows through the trees, plants, stones and landscapes, as well as the four directions and four elements.
