Out of the Dark and Into the Light
Sexually abused for 10 years by several family members from the age of 2, Diamante Lavendar has faced horrible hardships, yet she’s managed to turn her pain into purpose. Diamante shares with host Janie Terrazas her trauma was buried so deeply that it was eating her alive. “I didn’t realize I was re-victimizing myself.”
Later in life, two of her daughters tragically died. She shares how writing, and her faith, helped her deal with loss, grief and anger. Now she helps others overcome their pain and heartache, so they too can love and live fully.
Diamante Lavendar is the author of two award winning books entitled, Breaking The Silence and Poetry and Ponderings. Both books are based on her life and speak of finding hope and healing after abuse and loss. Diamante recently published her third book entitled, Finding Hope In The Darkness Of Grief. She wrote this book after the death of her daughter a year and a half ago. It’s a book of poetry and prose that contains her award winning art.
Diamante’s work is an exploration of the human soul, a traversing of situations that life throws at us. She’s always been intrigued by the ability to overcome and move on to bigger and better things. She writes to encourage hope and healing. Diamante believes that everyone should try to leave a positive mark on the world, to make it a better place for all. Writing is the way that she is attempting to leave her mark-one story at a time.
